Café Syria

Freundeskreis Asyl Ostfildern

The Café Syria has become tradition: In 2016 Syrian families began regularly inviting the citicens of Ostfildern. With the help from the Freundeskreis Asyl the Café syria was born. The delicious food and drink, as well as the intercultural exchange, has its own fan base. Ukrainian refugees are - among all other interested people - welcome to join.

Thanksgiving Celebration for Burundi

18:00, Kirche Scharnhausen, Philipp-Matthäus-Hahn-Str.

During the Thanksgiving service we will present a project for Burundi by Kolping. Goats shall become a basis on which people in Burundi can build their lifes.  Miss Hübner, catholic church administrator, will present the project. In addition, small sacks of vegetables will be sold in favor of this project. Afterwards there will be a small get-together. The music will be provided by an african drum group.

WIPS International – Festivities with Delicoius Food from around the Globe

A Cooperation of WIPS, Partnerschaft für Demokratie and eins plus b

This get-together offers a colourful and diverse programme for young and old. Following the Thanksgiving servive in the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Kirche (10:00 -11:00), a reception with coffee will be held at Treffpunkt Parksiedlung. At 12:00 an international buffet with delicious food from around the globe invites you on a culinary exploration. At 14:00 the children's theater Lümmel gives a presentation. A programme for children as well as adults in and around the house offers space for meeting new people and conversations.

International Women's Breakfast

The International Women's breakfast offers space to meet new people. Women from different cultures and nationalities can get together and exchange ideas. Children's Theater Lümmel – Animal Friednship by Florian Fickel

The piece is about the value of friendship and the diversity of different ways of life - featuring Wilhelm Schneck. Children shall learn to be tolerant towards eachother despite theit differences. For children aged 5 to 8. Duration: 40 minutes.

Living in germany – integrating by playing

Each culture has its particularities - it is worthwile knowing them, in order to better integrate oneself. We go about it by playing. „Leben in Deutschland - Das Integrationsspiel“ and „Typisch Deutsch“ are two games that deal with the particularities of German culture. People of all ages and origins are invited to join us at the  Treffpunkt Scharnhausen and play together.

Interpratation: Specialisation Seminar and Reflexion on Experiences

During your appointments as interpreters you often experience situations and fates, that are not easy to digest and can be very burdensome. The course of a conversation can sometimes also be difficult to endure. In a safe space you can discuss such matters with colleagues and lighten this burden. We freshen up on our knowledge of the basics and techniques as well.

Photografy Workshop - Part 2

14:00-18:00 at Stadthaus, Scharnhauser Park, Gerhard-Koch-Str. 1

The "Stadthaus" has been planned as an open house where Ostfildern citizens could meet and get together. How do people moving to Ostfildern experience this? Which role do the people play here and which traces have they left? What relation between building and human becomes visible?

This workshop is free of charge. It is part of the project  ÜBER:MORGEN by KulturRegion Stuttgart.

A selection of pictures will be part of the exposition J.MAYER.H – Maßstäbe from October 23. through January 2023 in the municipal Galery Ostfildern. A maximum of 3 entries per person are permitted. Entries can be sent at H.Nann@Ostfildern.de

All children aged 4 and older are welcome to join the Ukrainian children's books cinema at the KuBinO. Anastasiya Völker, who has been living in Ostfildern for 17 years now, will be reading to the children in Ukrainian.

Jiaozi – Cooking Chinese Dumplings together

Miss Ren will teach you how to cook traditional Chinese Dumplings  Afterwards they will be prepared and eaten together during an intercultural exchange.  Food and drinks will be provided. Guided Tour through Scharnhauser Park for everybody

14:00-16:30 at Alte Wache, Claude-Dornier-Straße 4

The Scharnhauser Park has a rich history beginning as a private stud farm for the royal family, through the usage as military base, and now as the most modern part of Ostfildern. Archivist J.Bender provides connections between the history of Scharnhauser Park and the Intercultural Week. How was internationality lived in the stud farm? Was the air base racist? How were black soldiers treated during the initial period of the American military base? The route offers ample opportunities to discuss amongst ourselves.

Classical, Indian Music

19:00 at Kleiner Saal, an der Halle, Nellingen, Esslinger Str.26

In Indian mythology, bamboo-flutes or Bansuri are dedicated to the god Krishna who enchanted his surrinding with them. This Bansuri concert features Saurabh Vartak from Pune, accompanied by Latif Khan from Paris playing the Tabla.

Hindustani Classical is the musical artform from northern India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and parts of Afghanistan. The musical pieces express a mood. A meditative part is followed by a very ryhmic part which continuesly accelerates. The pieces are played by a small ensemble which doesnt follow written notes but improvises instead.
